Follow Tim Kerig's excavations in Kurdistan

September 15, 2021

Arrived in Erbil in the early morning hours of September 15. The "Mainz-Kiel Team" led by Tobias Helms and Tim Kerig will travel to Soran tomorrow. We are looking forward to enter the beautiful Zagros Mountains via the Hamilton Road once again.
We will continue our exploration of Ashkawta Rash cave, testing our hypothesis: Served Ashkawta Rash as a checkpoint controlling the access to the Diana plains during the Iron Age? At the nearby tell Girda Dasht we will continue our fieldwork by excavating a test trench for mainly stratigraphic purposes.

The project is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) under Germany's excellence strategy - EXC 2150-390870439.
